Your honeymoon is more than another holiday. It is the first big trip you take together as a married couple, often after months of planning, decisions and busy days.
So it makes sense to want it to feel personal.
You may already have a destination in mind. Or perhaps you only know that you would like sunshine, beautiful surroundings and time to relax together. Both are perfectly fine starting points.
As a luxury honeymoon planner UK couples can speak to directly, I help you work through the choices without making the process feel complicated. Here are ten things worth knowing before you book your 2027 honeymoon.
1. You do not need to have everything decided yet
Many couples worry that they need to arrive with a complete plan.
You do not.
An approximate wedding date, a rough budget and an idea of the kind of experience you want are enough to begin. You might be choosing between a relaxing beach stay, a touring holiday, a safari or a two-centre trip. We can work through those options together.
It also helps to talk about what you do not want.
Perhaps you would rather avoid a long transfer after a wedding. Maybe you want a quiet adults-only resort instead of somewhere lively. You may prefer to spend more on excursions and dining than on the largest room category.
These details help me narrow down the right options for you.
2. Start planning around 9–12 months before you travel
For many 2027 honeymoons, starting around nine to twelve months ahead gives you a comfortable planning window.
This is particularly helpful if you:
- Want to travel during a popular season
- Have your heart set on one particular hotel
- Need a honeymoon suite or private villa
- Are planning a safari or multi-destination itinerary
- Want specific flight times or departure airports
- Are travelling over Christmas, New Year or school holidays
For sought-after luxury resorts, remote lodges and more complicated itineraries, starting 12–18 months ahead can be sensible.
Flight schedules often become available around eleven months before travel, although this varies between airlines. I can help you understand what is available now, what is likely to open later and which parts of the trip are most important to secure first.
There is no benefit in rushing into a booking before you know what suits you. Equally, leaving everything until the last minute can limit your choice.
3. The best destination depends on your travel style
There is no single best honeymoon destination for every couple.
For a classic beach honeymoon, you might consider the Maldives, Mauritius, the Caribbean or Mexico. These can work well if your priority is warm weather, beautiful beaches and time to slow down.
Italy and Greece remain wonderful choices for couples who want food, scenery and culture alongside relaxation. You could combine a few nights in a city with time on the coast, or choose one beautiful base and explore at your own pace.
For something more adventurous, consider:
- A safari and beach combination in Tanzania
- Wildlife and scenery in Sri Lanka
- A road trip through New Zealand
- Japan with a quieter island stay afterwards
- Costa Rica for nature, activities and beaches
- Iceland for dramatic landscapes and a shorter touring honeymoon
The important question is not simply, “Where is popular for 2027?”
It is, “What would we genuinely enjoy doing together?”

4. Think about the weather for your exact travel dates
A destination may look perfect in a brochure, but the best time to visit depends on the month you are travelling.
For example, the dry season in the Maldives generally runs from November to April. Parts of the Caribbean are often most popular between December and May, while September and October can bring a greater risk of hurricanes in some areas.
European destinations can be excellent in the shoulder seasons. Late May, June, September and early October may offer a balance of warm weather, fewer crowds and better availability than the height of summer.
Some destinations also have different weather patterns from one coast or region to another. Sri Lanka is a good example. The best area to visit can depend on the time of year.
I will check the seasonal details as part of the planning process, rather than assuming that a destination works equally well all year round.
5. Set your budget before choosing the hotel
It is much easier to compare honeymoon options when you know the overall figure you are comfortable with.
Your budget should include more than the room rate. Remember to think about:
- Flights and baggage
- Transfers
- Meals and drinks
- Excursions
- Spa treatments
- Special dinners
- Travel insurance
- Tips and spending money
- Any internal flights or overnight stays
A honeymoon does not need to be extravagant to feel special. You may decide that a comfortable hotel with one memorable private experience is better for you than upgrading every part of the trip.
Shoulder-season travel can also make a meaningful difference to the overall cost. Travelling just outside the busiest dates may give you more choice without changing the type of experience you want.
When you contact me, an approximate budget is completely fine. I can explain what is realistic for your dates, destination ideas and preferred standard of accommodation.
6. A honeymoon upgrade is not always the best use of your money
Hotels offer many room categories, and the most expensive option is not automatically the best choice.
A room upgrade may be worthwhile if it gives you:
- A private pool
- Direct beach access
- A balcony with an exceptional view
- More space for a longer stay
- A quieter location within the resort
- A private plunge pool or outdoor bath
But sometimes the difference in price could be used more effectively elsewhere.
You might prefer to keep a standard room and add a private boat trip, a sunset dinner or a day of guided sightseeing. Or you may decide that an extra night is more valuable than a higher room category.
I will help you compare the practical benefits of each option, not simply present the most expensive one.
7. Plan a few honeymoon extras, but leave room to relax
Special arrangements can make a honeymoon feel personal.
Depending on your destination and hotel, you might add:
- A private dinner on the beach
- A couples’ spa treatment
- A sunset cruise
- A room decoration on arrival
- A private airport transfer
- A cooking class
- A photographer for a short couple’s shoot
- A guided day trip
- A picnic or breakfast in a special setting
You do not need to fill every day with activities.
In fact, I often recommend leaving some space in the itinerary. After a wedding, a slower first few days may be exactly what you need. One or two carefully chosen experiences can be more enjoyable than a schedule that leaves you tired.

8. Consider the journey as carefully as the destination
A honeymoon should feel special from the moment you leave home.
That does not mean you need business class or a private jet. It means looking at the full journey and deciding what will make it comfortable for you.
Consider:
- Which UK airport is easiest
- Whether the flight times suit you
- How many connections are involved
- How long the transfer takes at the other end
- Whether you need an overnight stop
- If a private transfer is worthwhile
- How much time you want to spend travelling between destinations
A beautiful resort can feel less appealing if it requires several flights followed by a lengthy road transfer. On the other hand, a more involved journey may be worthwhile for a remote lodge or a particularly special destination.
This is where detailed planning helps. I will look at the full route, not just the hotel photograph.
9. A honeymoon specialist can save you time and uncertainty
You can book many holidays online. For a straightforward trip, doing it yourself may be exactly right.
Honeymoon planning services can be particularly useful when your trip involves several decisions, such as:
- A safari followed by a beach stay
- Multiple hotels or countries
- A specific honeymoon suite
- Special occasions and private experiences
- Long-haul travel with internal flights
- A large overall budget
- Tight dates around your wedding
As an independent travel consultant, I can compare options from more than 250 suppliers and narrow them down around your priorities. You do not need to sort through hundreds of similar-looking hotels or work out every connection alone.
You speak directly with me from the first conversation through to booking and beyond. If I need more information, I will ask rather than guess.
That continuity matters when the trip is important.

10. Understand what support and protection apply before you book
Before you pay, make sure you understand what is included and what protection applies to your particular arrangements.
Protection can depend on whether you book a package holiday, a flight-inclusive package or separate travel services. Not every holiday arrangement is covered in the same way.
At Simply Journeys, I will explain the relevant protection before you confirm your booking. Eligible flight-inclusive packages are covered by ATOL, while Simply Journeys by David is also protected through Protected Trust Services. You can read more in the Simply Journeys booking conditions and find general information through the Civil Aviation Authority.
You will also have a clear point of contact if you have a question before travelling or if arrangements change. Supplier terms still apply, but you do not have to work through every query on your own.
